A history of Aboriginal identity

My story begins as a descendant of the indigenous peoples of Australia, are Aboriginal, with a mixture of English and Dutch heritage. During my child and the age of primary school until the age of eight years, I lived with my family in a place called "Blackman s Point. Like most cities of the eastern state of NSW, this was a massacre of local Aboriginal fathers and mothers that have occurred during the execution of the coastal town of Port Macquarie in mid-1800."Blackman's Point" is called "Goolawahl. (Say as Gool-a-wall). Birripi culture.

The many rivers of the mountains from the west and the Great Diving Range, we have our territorial waters (Pacific Ocean), mostly, stories related to Aboriginal people "creating" them. Just as the Western Australian / Northern Territory "Noongar" The people and the South Australian "Pitjanjarra" their "dream time", culture and faith. So, to come to NSW, Victoria and Queensland AboriginesBloodlines.

Aboriginal Australians in NSW identify themselves as "Goor", "Boor" or "Murri" and refer to this for the European version of "Koori" opposite. The relationship that everyone had in common was strong in the 60s, I rented our old house had to endure remember "Black Man's Point" (like us) three major floods in 1963, 1964 and 1966.

Practically the whole city full of Port Macquarie was under water at some point during these occasions, the summer months, whenheavy rainfall water masses from the mountains to flow along the Hastings River (Dhoongang) to reach the sea only to be pushed back by the giant king tides from the Pacific Ocean.

It 'was during the flood of 1964 (the biggest records for Port Macquarie), that our family has lost her sister, Patricia, as has been admitted since the beginning of double pneumonia in hospital. Patricia was one year, I was 3 years. Following the floods of 1966 and extended until 1968, our familiesCousins, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, mother, father, grandmother, grandparents had left the old farm houses (she had two houses from a bridge over a tributary of the river beds), had been damaged a lot, while the flooding angry and timber construction could not sustain earth as they no longer make the bridge was washed away, roads were washed away, cattle, sheep, wheat farmers and all other living things that no wings. Fortunately,Uncle Trevor Rumbel (was licensed fishermen) had two lifeboats us, and the Hastings River in the casting was through the front door of 2 clock in the morning. The front door was raised 6 feet with a wooden staircase down to the creek. (Tributary)

My sister Tanya was born in 1966 and Jo-Anne was born in 1968, was the Vietnam War on television, and little room for all of us children (their was 13 of us), the one and only TV in the home black and white suits. We had many otherSwimming, fishing and climbing trees to make the most of the time. After leaving Port Macquarie and the extended family, father, mother, Tanya, Jo-Anne and I moved north 160 miles or so cities in Evans Head. Yes, another important place of Aboriginal people, the "Bunjalung" people. Evans Head (Goanna Headland) is a mythological side of the "Dreamtime".

Corroboree and cerermonies were at this point in the soil (soil BORA), performed to their honor, as well as increase Goanna Spirit Totemthe supply of fish with their tribal songs Bungalung. Evans Head is now as it was a fishing village with fishing boats and pleasure craft at Fish Co-operative along the river Evans Head anchor.

Evans Head banks had a great sound (for ceremonial body painting). After leaving in 1969, we returned along the coast of Sawtell, the manufactured 10 miles south of Coffs Harbour (pioneer sawmill cedar) with a large basin for the ships of England rich cedar and TransportEurope. From 6 Class was in a town called Woolgoolga (Pop currently 25000), about 15 miles north of Coffs Harbour (pop 100,000), on the northern half of New South Wales. Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Coffs Harbour are in town " Gumbaynggir "or country" Gumbangar. "Woolgoolga is a variant of the word Gumbaynggir for" Weilga "or native plum. My grandfather, William "goole" (Koala) Holten (1923 -2002) told me that when disputes between the tribes of "Birripi" and the adjacentoccurred "Dunghutti" (Crow people) was the Gumbaynggir that mediates disputes. Birripi Dunghutti people and have a long association with the Gumbaynggir. I also learned that the dragon spirit birripi "men-Booral-den-di" (size of the Boeing 767) have caused the sand to set up, on "Yarrahapinni" Mountain (three rolls down a hill koala - legend Gumbaynggir) during the rotation of the escape from giant dick in the sandy loam the attacks of the giant "Crows" (Dhungutti). After the "dream time"Birripi the giant lizard spit fire on the big crows (Dhungutti) and therefore all crows are blacks today.

During the European settlement at Port Macquarie as a penal colony in the years after 1800 a great battle between the European Union and the combined Birripi, and people Dhungutti Gumbaynggir "Goolawahl" fought. The story of the battle, describes how did the Hastings River red with the blood of the fallen.

My mother and my sister and my sister Tanya in Woolgoolga, maintain and DadGrandmother were there. According to the Aboriginal Land Rights Act was passed in 1983, the land of the Crown to Aborigines for its community members in NSW, many important improvements in education, employment and self-determination for Aboriginal people in NSW has the right eventuated left-handed power.

In 1993, the High Court of Australia raised the doctrine of "terra nullius", that Australia was free when Europeans in Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) constant. Eddie Mabo elderlythe Meriam people lost their customary title to their Murri island off the coast of North Queensland, claiming rights of common law by federal courts Queensland for 10 years that people had the ownership and occupation of their unbeaten island and not a government of Australia had a better title is what they do.

Koike Eddie Mabo (1936-1992) removed before the decision was approved by the Supreme Court issued.

In 1997 Native Title Act 1993, but was reducedThe water with the changes made by the Liberal government of Australia and the then Prime Minister, the Hon John Howard MP adopted. The so-called 10-point "Wik-Plan"

(Wik, the name of the Northern Territory, Gulf of Carpentaria strain), were the face of a mechanism for native title must also accept them because of pastoral leases to co-existence with their mother tongue follows the Gulf of Carpentaria Australia. The common law rights of all AustraliansAboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders claiming native title were subject to a 10-point Wik plan.

As expected, the "Wik" people:

(The did not speak English and could not understand a word) voted yes ain for proposed changes to the Native Title Act 1993 pastoral leases for tribal land, enabling collaboration exists with native title owners and the rest of the race Australian Aboriginal Native Title in a federal court to try for each question of native title claimRights.

I have been informed (no names mentioned) that, because the interpreter (the government appointed) supervision on the Conference "Wik" in 1997, it was some time before the representatives of Wik had lowered his hands from the request for a vote. Apparently, the interpreter had forgotten to tell them to stop voting. (Wink)

Since 1993, ten native title claims have been determined.

How did the applicant in 2000 561 Native Title claims have been filed in Australia.

As in the Christmas 2000 63 AuthorisedContain directions for the Northern Territory has been filed.

I worked and a member of the Aboriginal Land Council since 1992. I was a member of the Board of Darkinjung local Aboriginal Land Council, selected in September 2009.
